An exchange of experience across borders is essential and it opens new opportunities in a globalised media society as ideas for projects and synergies can be put to a worldwide use. As an information and service portal „Reading Worldwide“ intends to inspire a transfer of knowledge and provide support to multipliers in the field of reading promotion.

„Exciting rather than educating!“ -this is the motto behind the „Leseoffensive Steiermark“, a reading initiative that was launched in autumn 2008, supported by the education department of the regional government of Steiermark. It intends to motivate children to read, promote a joy of books and engage parents in reading aloud and telling stories. Particularly with parents and educators alike, an awareness of the high significance of early reading for education is thus to be inspired.

Residence scholarship for German school librarians in the United States of America

The "Librarian in Residence" program offers two German librarians an opportunity to experience the conditions and operations of US-American school libraries in a residence scholarship covering several weeks. The program is organised by the Goethe Institute New York in close collaboration with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and Bibliothek & Information International. Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2010.
