„Preparing for Life“ - Ireland

„Bookstart“ in South Korea

Bookstart-Korea has been gifting book packs to babies since April 2003 in 99 localities (46%) across the country. Bookstart package reaches 120,000 babies each year, and the number is increasing every year. The programme currently reaches around 120,000 babies per year via deliveries in public health centres and public libraries. Book Buzz is part of the Indigenous Literacy Project (Links zur Institution), aiming to foster the reading skills of indigenous people in Australia, particularly children, in remote areas. The `Lesestart`-initiative for reading in Germany

In May 2008, the nationwide initiatve for reading in Germany was launched following experience from England and a model project jointly conducted by the state of Saxon and Stiftung Lesen (Reading Foundation). In order to familiarise children with reading at an early age, pediatric surgeries hand the parents a starter kit containing not only a children`s book and manual for parents, but also a diary for recording the child`s reading and language progress.

Dolly Parton´s Imagination Library (United Kingdom)

Dolly Parton chose Rotherham to introduce her children’s literacy scheme. The Imagination Library involves posting children a reading book every month until the age of five.
