„Aksjon Lesekompis“ und „Aksjon Lesereisen“ for children in Norway

The national reading competition „Aksjon Lesekompis“ (reading partners) for children in classes 1 to 4 and the competition „Aksjon Lesereisen“ (reading journey) for children in classes 5 to 7 is annually organised and funded by „Norli bokhandelselskap“, a big book chain in Norway , in cooperation with the most significant publishers in Norway (e.g. Cappelen, Aschehoug, Gyldendal). The younger children receive a sticker for each book they have either read, listened to or have jointly read with a partner [ ... ]

„Idrett og lesing“ - Sport and Reading in Norway

Sport and Reading was a three year project by The Association Read funded by The Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority (now the National Library of Norway) and Arts Council Norway. The main objective was to bring literature into the sport field to create a joy for reading among athletes in different sport sections including mass and elite sports. „Duffy – Books in Homes“ in New Zealand

The „Duffy Books in Homes“ charity was established in 1995 and since its inception, it has provided more than 100 000 children from ca. 550 schools with at least five books a year each. Duffy focuses on those schools that, according to census statistics, are attended by particularly deprived children. Book Buzz is part of the Indigenous Literacy Project (Links zur Institution), aiming to foster the reading skills of indigenous people in Australia, particularly children, in remote areas. LIBRARY THE FRIEND (Czech Republic prize for children’s libraries)

POWER LUNCH! is the original mentoring programme launched by the non-profit organisation Everybody Wins, where elementary school students from lower income families are paired with adult volunteers who read to them aloud. The Letterbox Club - UK

A project hosted by the organisation EVERYBODY WINS, which promotes the literacy skills of children from lower income families. In EW! Book Clubs, groups of 4th and 5th grade students and their adult reading mentors select a book to read each month. The Newham Project (UK)

The result of a collaboration between the Newham Music Trust and Reading Is Fundamental, The Newham Project aim is to help children who might not usually enjoy reading, by using music to bring stories alive. The scheme has reached more than 270 seven to 10-year-olds, giving three books to each child, and staging three music sessions per year. Teacher Michelle Loughery explains: “Children may be able to read a word, but may not know its meaning in terms of dramatic events, so musical interpretation helps.“
